During the past seven days I walked a measly 34,516 steps, bringing my year to date mileage to 516 miles. As I mentioned in my last post, it was not a good week for walking. This week will be better. Other than tomorrow, I'll be able to set my schedule as I please and walk around the office whenever I want! I am going to make the very best of the week ahead and maybe even lose another pound or two.
I'll be here two more days next week. Then I'll take a quick trip to see my sister and her family. When I get back, there will be no more excuses I'll have about three weeks before all the back to school stuff starts happening with 65MD so I'm really going to hit it hard. Chug the water, watch the carbs, and walk, walk, walk!
This is my journey. It is full of twists and turns, ups and downs. It is worth it for the lasting change it brings. I hope my journey will help others find their own path.

The Week that Was
I knew this past week was going to be crazy both at work and at home. I knew the best I could do was just hang on for the ride. I was right and I did.
I'll be doing well to get 30,000 steps in by tomorrow night. My trainee is doing great. All she really needs now is confidence. She'll get that in time. She will be on vacation next week, so I'll be free to roam around the office getting steps as I once did. I'll spend a couple more days with her when she gets back then I'm going on vacation. I'm hoping not to have to go back after that.
Since I knew I'd drive myself completely insane if I tried to follow some strict eating plan this week. I followed some vague notions like "avoid carbs" and "make good choices" so I really was not expecting anything in the weight loss arena. In fact, I was just hoping not to gain. Well, guess what? I lost a whole pound last week! I ate carbs, but mostly didn't. I made good choices, and I made a few bad choices.
Even though I'm glad for the loss, I'm a little concerned. I know myself well enough to know that I'll start telling myself I can eat this or that because I did that week that was so crazy and I lost weight. I've got to tame that monster right away.
I was great all but one day on getting plenty of water. Drinking water is almost second nature to me. The day, I did not make it, I'd spent most of the day in the courtroom. I have one more day like that this week, but other than that my days will be much more my own to structure as I please. And since drinking water has become such a normal routine in my life, I'm hoping that the healthy food choices, and desire to exercise will come as well.
I'll do an official Monday Mileage report on Monday and update my ticker then. I'm looking forward to a much better week, and if I lose another pound, GREAT!

Monday Mileage
As I mentioned in my last post, I was fairly sedentary last week. I finished the week at 52,239 steps, and I have 505 miles for the year. This week is starting out even worse. I spent most of the day in the courtroom today (no worries!) and unable to stroll. I only have 3500 steps for the whole day!
I'll be back in the office tomorrow training my brilliant replacement. As she moves up the learning curve, I'll have more time for indoor walks. Major storms blew through over the weekend bringing much more seasonal temperatures, so I should be able to resume my evening walks as well.
I think after this week, I should be over most of these hurdles that have held me back last week. I am so read to break through these barriers and see just exactly what I'm made of! Hang on, folks!!

My Week
I knew this week was going to be a challenge and I was right. At work, I started training my replacement. She's sharp and learning quickly, which is great. It isn't so great, however, that I can't stroll through the office on my restroom breaks. Poor woman, would just be sitting there twiddling her thumbs. Sadly, I lost quite a few steps that way. Even though it was expected, it was not good.
Then our triple digit, record breaking heat continued. There is no end in sight. Even early morning walks leave me drenched in sweat and I am not prone to that. If I sweat, HOT doesn't even begin to describe the temperature. I walked some in the evenings, but not like I was able to just a few weeks ago due to the oppressive and even dangerous heat. Once again I lost steps.
I adjusted my expectations for the week and my goal was to break the 500 mile mark since the year is about half over. I've done that!! I'll give a full report on Monday, probably late in the day Monday.
I'm still here, still walking and doing my best to not eat carbs. I admit it still happens, but I'm making progress in the right direction. I expect next week to be much like this week, chained to the desk training, and stuck inside during the prime walking days.
But the end is in sight as far as the working days are concerned. I have a good plan for getting in my steps once I start working from home. (Besides, I won't matter if I'm sweaty & stinky, the dog won't care!) Between now and then I'll just do the best I can. Don't worry if I'm silent. I'm still here. :)
