Phantom Pedometer

I know it is only day three, but I feel good about keeping the positive habits I created in 2012 by doing the 1000 mile challenge.  I still behave as though I have the pedometer clipped to my waist.

I went to the grocery store yesterday and drove to my favorite far away parking spot.  Someone in a mini cooper slipped in to 'my' spot and I remembered my statement about not fighting for the close spaces!  Oh well, I'll have to fight for the far ones.

Inside,  I lapped the store several times.  Most on purpose, but once because I forgot something.  Later in the day, I took my mother to the doctor.  Parking is an a garage.  There is a bit of a walk to the elevator, I don't park far away for her sake.  Inside the building there is another little walk to the office.  As we were leaving, I thought I'd had a pretty good walking day and reached for the pedometer to check.  It wasn't there.

I still walk around in the house taking the long way or making more trips than really needed to move laundry, etc.  I'm going to keep those habits.  I like them.  I also like not being burdened by guilt or frustration when the situation does not allow for me to get the maximum number of steps like when another car got the parking spot I wanted.  All in all, I think this is a good thing.

  1. Hey, I have a mini Cooper, but it wasn't me! ;)

This working extra steps into your daily life is SUCH a positive step! Good for you!

  2. I get cracked up when I purposefully pull into a far-away parking spot while everyone else is fighting over the front-door parking! :) Looks like 2012's challenge turned into 2013's habit! What is the challenge for 2013 that will turn into a habit for 2014? Something to consider! :)

    1. Staci,
I've given that a lot of consideration. I'm not sure on the weight loss side of things what I might do.

On a non-weight loss level, I've started a "thankful jar" and every day, I write one thing for which I am thankful and drop it in the jar. On December 31, I'll go back a read them. I'm sure that will help me a lot emotionally.

If I come up with a 2013 weightloss challenge, I'll post it for sure.

  3. I think it was reading about your trying to get 1000 miles that got me inspired to get a fitbit. I still like wearing it because it keeps me honest about how many steps/miles I get a day.

    1. So, how do you like it? I have considered one off and on. I don't think that I'd use it enough to justify the cost, but I don't know anyone personally that has used one. Please let me know what you think.

    2. I really like it. I think I got it a year ago and just stick it on my bra (in the front between the girls). I forget it's there most of the time. It gives steps and miles and calories which I like. I haven't used the website in a while, but liked it when I did.

  5. I laugh at the parking place fight because I did that for so many years when I started counting steps...now I do it because I have a new car and don't want anyone else around me!! Hope things are still running smoothly with your mom in the house. Is she doing o.k.?

    1. Sharon,
I was just thinking that I should do a little catch up post about my mom. She is much better and back in her house.
      Thanks for asking.
