The 17 Day Diet

I finally got the book from the library on Wednesday, after being on the wait list for what seemed like forever! I started reading it right away and realized that this is just that for which I'd been looking.  I went on amazon and bought the book!  It should be here early next week.  That's OK, I've got plenty of time to keep the library book until my own arrives.

I'm definitely going to do this plan and I believe it is just what I need to get right on down to my goal weight.  The plan appeals to me on several levels:
1.  It is much like what I eat now, with a few minor tweaks, like more food.
2.  It makes sense to me that my body adapts to whatever I'm doing so I need to change periodically
3.  It seems to be a sane and sensible way to eat.

I'm a little sad that some obligations late next week will prohibit me from starting right now.  It seems silly to start when I know that I won't be able to comply for more than one meal at the end of the week.  I'm doing what I'm calling a soft start.  I'm going to start incorporating the probiotics into my diet right now.  That is the biggest change from my current way of eating.  I'm going to allow myself beef & pork for the week too, but only because it is on hand and I need to eat it.

Beginning on next Monday, I'll start day one of the first 17 day cycle. I can get all the way through two cycles and most of the way through the third before my sister's wedding on April 7.

I have a question for those of you experienced with this plan.  Can I really expect to lose 10+ pounds during the first cycle?  I know that a much larger person just starting on a program could, but I've been at this nearly three years now and am very close to my goal.  The last thing I want to do is create an unrealistic expectation and set myself up for failure. to me...what is reasonable?

I am excited and ready.  All I have to do now is just do it!

  1. Hey Lori. Try it, you'll like it. As to whether you'll lose 10 pounds or not on the first cycle, I think Tami (Nutmeg Notebook) got it right. Your mileage may vary. Tomorrow is my 17th day on Cycle 1. As of this morning, I've lost 10.2 pounds. I had exactly 50 pounds to lost to get to my goal when I started. Now there are 39.8 to go and that seems much more doable. :-) I have to say, I'm ready to add a few things (brown rice and beef). Good luck!

  2. I'll add my disclaimer that everybody is going to be different, so who knows what your body will do. I lost 8.2 pounds during my first 17 day cycle. To the best of my knowledge, I only had one slip during that first cycle when I accidentally ate spaghetti squash one evening. I thought it was one of the veggies in Cycle 1 and it wasn't. I believe that it you adhere to the plan totally, you can't help but lose. There is really never any excuse to be hungry, but you most likely will be pretty tired of some things and more than ready to start Cycle 2. But that's one of the things I've liked most. About the time you get really tired of something, your cycle changes and you get to add new things. Good luck! I'm right here if you have any questions or just need encouragement.

  3. You have done one awesome job with your weight loss. An inspiration for the rest of us.

  4. I am anxious to hear how you do. I've been thinking about trying this. Sounds like you can really make a difference in your weight loss!

    Keep focused!

  5. I just finished day 5 of cycle 1 and am definately losing. I can't say how much you'll lose as I'm still waiting to see how I'll do. I think you'll like it. Cycle 1 is a little on the strict side, but I've really needed the discipline and have embraced it as a challenge. I'm looking forward to working my way through the other cycles and enjoying more variety. I also love knowing that if I do gain a little I can immediately return to cycle 1 to get it back off quickly.

I wish you all the best and am looking forward to following your progress.
