I Think It Is The Exercise

I am continually trying to figure out why I haven't lost any weight at all while doing sparkpeople. It is like a little tape running in the back of my head all of the time. The more I consider/appraise/assess/whatever the more I think I am eating the right way. I know there is room for improvement, but I still think the way I am eating should lead to weight loss. That leads me to the other major component of this journey, exercise.

The sparkpeople workout routine has me lifting weights, and doing new exercises three times per week. I think that is a very good thing. It also has cardio only three days per week. I was doing it at least 5 days per week. I thought the trade off with strength training would make up for the lost calories burned, but now I'm rethinking that. I'm fairly certain that is isn't the old muscle weighs more than fat thing. If it was, I think I would have broken through the barrier and started back down the scales. So, starting today it is back to 5 days per week cardio. I'll still do the 3 days per week strength training too.

We'll see if this works...stay tuned...

  1. I am glad you posted about this today Lori. And I have to tell you my experience. And if I hadnt seen it myself I would not have beleived... The scale was moving pretty slow. I was going up and down on the scale a little here and there and then realized...it was a plateau. So...one week after having run 7 miles, walked 5 miles and did 4 zumba classes the week before the scale said I GAINED 3 lbs on weigh in day. I was ticked. I blogged all about it actually. I had been going to the gym, calorie counting, and really thinking I was doing pretty well. So i had them redo my measurements trying to figure it all out. It just didnt seem right. I even got a new scale thinking there must be something wrong with the one I was using..haha. You know...I had lost 8 1/2 inches off my body!!!! The lady said that the scale isnt everything and that inches really do prove more than the scale. Sooo...i dont know if you have been doing measurements but I bet in your case it wouldbe just the thing to show you that you ARE making progress even if the scale is MEAN.
